We asked Julio Hernandez, assistant to the president for community outreach & engagement at Clemson University, what he wished more parents of college freshmen would ask him.
Here’s what he said:
“I wish more parents would ask about the academic resources on campus. It’s critical that our students get connected immediately to their academic community.
I’ve seen students on the verge of losing prestigious scholarships because they weren’t connected with their academic community.
We want to help freshmen meet older students in the same area of study. We want to ensure they understand how to study and manage their time. We want them to use our academic resources, connect with student organizations and join upcoming events. We want to help them make connections.
I want to encourage parents to ask about how they can help their children academically and set them up for future success.”
