Scholarship recipients connect with Intentionality Club members

Goals were set and new connections were made at an event designed to build bonds among College of Charleston students.

Recipients of the Meeting Street Scholarship co-hosted an event with the College of Charleston’s Intentionality Club to bring students together and share their goals.

“I think it’s important to build community between Scholarship recipients so that we can all support each other and provide guidance to freshmen recipients,” said Scholarship recipient and College of Charleston junior Silvia Mundy.

As a campus leader, Silvia is a mentor to younger Scholarship recipients and helped organize the event.

The event was a special convergence of two initiatives aimed at supporting students and founded by Ben Navarro. The Intentionality Club was born out of the Intentionality class Ben teaches at the College of Charleston; Ben also founded the Meeting Street Scholarship.

At the event, Intentionality Club members welcomed Scholarship recipients to the Center and introduced them to the Club, which empowers students with the tools and habits needed for a fulfilling life.

“We do a lot of programming around habits, relationships, mental and physical wellness to help you take control and ownership of your lives,” Marina Dryer, president of the Intentionality Club.

Students moved from floor to floor of the Center to network and participate in goal-setting activities.

On the first floor, students introduced themselves over yogurt parfaits and were challenged to take a group Polaroid picture, write down a common goal and add the photo to the whiteboard.

On the second floor, students played improv games. The room filled with laughter as students embraced the discomfort and opened up to one another.

On the third floor, students created vision boards. With photos, markers and stickers, they mapped out their goals and ambitions for the semester ahead.

“I saw so much joy and connection in the room from the start, especially during our charades activity,” Silvia said. “It was an awesome environment for Scholarship recipients to build meaningful relationships and help guide each other through college.”
