How it works
The Meeting Street Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving, under-resourced South Carolina students who enroll in our state’s top colleges.
The Scholarship originated in 2021 through visionary private philanthropy offering a four-year, up to $40,000 Scholarship to public school graduates in 14 counties, which have since been designated as Legacy counties.
In the 2026-27 South Carolina budget, the General Assembly generously appropriated a recurring $18.7 million to pilot an up to $10,000 scholarship to all qualifying graduates in the state’s remaining 32 counties, which are designated as Expansion counties.
The Scholarship is humbled by this support and hopes to continue to partner with the state to continue serving our first class of Expansion county recipients and also offer the same opportunity to future classes.

FOUR-YEAR COMMITMENT

Students in Legacy counties who graduate from a public high school are eligible to renew their Scholarship for up to four years.
Graduation year
To be eligible for the Scholarship, Allendale County students must have enrolled in college starting in fall 2024.

Scholarship award
ONE-YEAR COMMITMENT
Students can earn up to $10,000 for the 2027-28 school year. We hope to secure additional state funding to continue the Scholarship in Expansion counties and expand eligibility to more students in future years.
High school
Any graduate of a high school, whether it’s public, private or home school, qualifies for a one-year Scholarship of up to $10,000.
Graduation year
High school seniors graduating in spring 2027 are eligible.
Life or Palmetto Fellows
Students must earn a LIFE or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, which involves meeting two out of three requirements:
- Graduate with a 3.0 GPA
- Rank in the top 30 percent of your class
- Score 1100 on the SAT or 22 on ACT
Pell Grant
Students must complete the 2027-28 school year FAFSA and qualify for a Federal Pell Grant. The 2027-28 FAFSA opens on Oct. 1.
Eligible colleges
Students must enroll as a full-time student in one of the following colleges, all of which have a three-year average graduation rate of 50 percent or higher:
- Anderson University
- Bob Jones University
- Claflin University
- Clemson University
- College of Charleston
- Columbia College
- Columbia International University
- Converse University
- Furman University
- North Greenville University
- Presbyterian College
- Southern Wesleyan University
- The Citadel
- University of South Carolina – Columbia
- University of South Carolina – Upstate*
- Winthrop University
- Wofford College
*To be eligible for the Meeting Street Scholarship at USC - Upstate, students must live in Spartanburg County
