What high school seniors should be doing now

October 1, 2024

Although the FAFSA doesn’t open until December and our application doesn’t open until January, there’s plenty for seniors to do right now to ensure they’re on track to attend college and maximize their student aid.

  1. Decide where to apply: Consider factors such as cost, college selectivity and graduation rate. One resource to reference is our College Report, which was created to help prospective students evaluate the 17 Scholarship-eligible colleges in South Carolina. We encourage eligible students to apply to at least one of our eligible colleges.
  2. Create a FAFSA ID: All students who plan to complete the FAFSA and qualify for federal financial aid must create a FSA ID. For most students, at least one parent will also need to create one too. To create an account, you will need your Social Security number and email address. If your parent does not have a Social Security Number, they can still create an account by answering a few knowledge-based questions to verify their identity. Learn more.
  3. Fill out a Meeting Street Scholarship Fund interest form: By completing an interest form, you’ll receive important updates and notifications from our team and about our application process. Subscribe now.
  4. Follow us on social media or subscribe to our newsletter: Another way to learn more about our Scholarship and recipients is to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok. You also can subscribe to our newsletter. Here’s our most recent issue published Oct. 8.
